Individual Nurse Needs

Many of our team trips require follow-up appointments. Many of the organizations we visit are too busy and too strap for cash to make these appointments happen. We like to leave a nurse (or two) on-site to help facilitate this follow-up. We are also partnered with a few organizations in need of an individual nurse to help for a month or three at a time. The needs are posted below, and are generally “on-going” in nature-meaning volunteers can start within 4-5 months of applying.

Refugee Health Alliance, Tijuana Mexico (4-16 weeks)

This organization is working with migrants at the US/Mexico border. As a volunteer you would be augmenting the staff at this clinic by acting as a clinic nurse; triaging, taking vital signs, providing patient education, dressing wounds, etc. You have the option of helping at their weekend outreach or having the weekend to yourself. As clinic charting and patient education are in Spanish (and you will be expected to perform these duties) a moderate level of Spanish is required.

Bahay.png

Bahay Tuluyan, -PAUSED-

This organization gives the street children of Manila a place to go and provides them with much needed education.  While many of these kids should be in school the cycle of poverty often prevents that. There are a myriad of kids accessing this shelter and they need for a nurse to not only assess the children, but obtain parental consent to take them to get the free medical/dental care that they need.  Bahay Tuluyan also does outreach ministries to the poorest areas of Manila on a weekly basis.  As a nursing volunteer you would accompany the staff to these ministries, and help with health education teaching and assessments. There are social workers at the center that would help you obtain parental consent, and get the children to the proper care provider.  You would be responsible for improving the child’s health and access to healthcare as well as working in coordinating a plan with the social worker as to how to improve these children’s lives.  As you will soon learn there is never a simple solution to the problems these children face, but your time and dedication will help make their lives a little bit better.  Housing is included near the facility, and ran by children that use to be in the shelter. To learn more about the organization please visit: www.bahaytuluyan.com.

Cost: $1000 USD for 1 month, $1800 2 months, $2700 3 months

Includes: Accommodation with a/c and wifi, transport to and from the airport, medical and education supplies for the trip, translator, social worker help

Not included: Airfare, Meals, transport around the city, weekend excursions at your leisure

Start Date: This is an ongoing opportunity.

New Hope Cambodia: -PAUSED-

This organization will need a nurse volunteer to function as a school nurse.  They see 1000 children a day that come through their supplemental school, and for many this is their only source of healthcare.  What Nursing Beyond Borders hopes to accomplish with this position is to have the nurse establish a relationship with the local children’s hospital, and to facilitate healthcare for the children.  While attending to daily ailments is helpful the children also need health education, and the families often need assistance getting their child the care they need.  The parents spend most of their day either at work or caring for the house, and are not able to wait in the long lines at the municipal hospitals.  We would like to focus on the children that may need dental or optometrist follow up and assist the parents in getting the children to see the correct healthcare provider.  We would also like to ensure that the children are on a deworming schedule. To learn more about this organization please visit: www.newhopecambodia.com

Since 2015 LFHC is dedicated to providing high-quality and compassionate healthcare to the children in remote areas of Northern Laos.
